Ariel, the creators of the superfast, superlight and the rather naked Atom sports car, are currently working on a new titanium chassis to underpin a limited edition Atom as well as their future models.
The new chassis, they claim, will be 40 per cent lighter than the Atom’s current tubular frame made of steel. It is also expected to reduce the overall weight of the car by up to eight per cent. The British automaker is aiming to keep the weight of the Atom below 500kgs and power it with a naturally aspirated Honda engine.
While Ariel is working on making the car lighter, it must be noted that the Atom is already a super light and incredibly fast car. It has no doors, no windows, no windscreen and no other known comforts that one would expect to find in a modern sports car. It has been designed with sole purpose of accelerating at a reality defying pace and be extremely track worthy as possible.
The Ariel Atom was launched around five year ago with a modified Honda Civic Type-R mill. In 2011 Ariel fitted a 500bhp engine for the Atom and called it the Ariel Atom 500.
