Audi India
Audi recorded an impressive 98 percent growth in April 2011 with a sale of 375 cars (189 cars: April 2010). For the period January – April 2011, the company sold 1986 cars – a growth of 105 percent over the same period last year (967 cars: Jan – April 2010).
Audi India embarked upon an aggressive product expansion strategy this year with the launch of a series of class-defining models like the all new Audi A8 L, Audi R8 V10 and Audi R8 Spyder and the Audi Q5 2.0 TDI. Audi continues to be the market leader in the luxury SUV segment in India with its Q5 and Q7, and in the super sports car segment with its iconic R8.
Audi has opened showrooms in Delhi and Chennai, with Ludhiana to follow soon. Last year, the company inaugurated showrooms in Mumbai West, Kolkata, Jaipur and Bengaluru.
Ford India
Ford India witnessed a strong business momentum with domestic wholesales of 7319 vehicles and maintained robust exports in April 2011. The company sold 42,395 wholesale and export vehicles from January to April 2011 – clocking an impressive year-on-year growth of 83 percent during the same period last year when it sold 23,115 units.
The company shipped out 1167 cars in April – a growth of over five times during the same month last year. Ford India also stirred up the action in the B-segment with two significant products – the Fiesta Classic and all-new global Fiesta.
The new Fiesta marks the first in a series of eight new global products that Ford plans to introduce in India by the middle of this decade.
Honda Siel Cars India
Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India reported sales of 2,012 units during the month of April 2011 as against 3,578 units sold during the corresponding month last year.
Commenting on the company’s sales volumes Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing said, “As announced earlier, the Japan issue prompted us to reduce production at our Greater Noida plant to 50% from this month. However, production adjustments for a smooth transition began from mid April. Further, to ensure continuity of supplies to our customers in the forthcoming months, we have moderated our wholesale despatches. We are hoping that supplies will normalise post July and we would be able to catch up on the lost volumes.”

Hyundai Motor India Ltd
Hyundai Motor India Ltd, continued to grow with domestic sales growing at 11% for the month of April, 2011. HMIL’s total sales for April, 2011 stood at 52,058 units as against 52,020 units in April, 2010 registering a growth of 0.1%. The domestic sales accounted for 31,636 units as against 28,501 units in April, 2010 while the exports declined by 13.2% from 23,519 units in April, 2010 to 20,422 units in April, 2011.
Commenting on April, 2011 sales, Arvind Saxena, Director - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “The rising interest rates have led to reduced enquires and the conversion rate too has slowed down. We expect the same trend to continue in the coming months.”
Segment-wise cumulative sales for the month of April, 2011 are: A2 segment (Santro, i10, i20) 46,779 units; A3 Segment (Accent & Verna) 5,227 units; A5 segment (Sonata Transform) 20 units; Santa Fe (SUV) 32 units.
Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki sustained its leadership over the Indian market and sold a total of 97,155vehicles in April 2011. This includes 10,011 units for export. The company had sold a total of 93,058 vehicles in April 2010. A special mention to the Kizashi which garnered a good response.
