The Volkswagen Amarok has been around for almost a decade now. This full-size VW pick-up truck has reached quite a few places across the globe – Asia, South America, Europe, Australia, South Africa and Mexico, but was never sold in America, one of the largest markets across the globe for large pickup trucks. With Volkswagen registering the Amarok name in the US this year, speculations of the truck making it to the States are rife.
But, it might not be the same Amarok, the full-size single/twin-cab pick-up truck that is built globally. Some say it might be based on the all-new Atlas SUV, the one that is also set to debut at New York in its five-seat form. But far from being small, the Atlas is the largest SUV built on the MQB platform in terms of size. Then again, the ladder-frame rugged truck on the MQB is something that we are not really well-versed with to comment on.
Volkswagen seems to be positive about the development of the new pick-up for America and it might turn out to be the new Amarok across the globe as the truck is still stuck in its first generation, eight years after its global launch. Well, we will have to wait this week out to find out what really happens at the New York Auto Show which starts next week. Stay tuned.
