BMW India has expanded its coupe-like range of SUVs with the launch of the all-new X4. As the name suggests, this new offering sits between the X3 and the X5 which are relatively more family oriented. Here’s what we think are the top 5 highlights of the sporty-looking X4 that you will be seeing on the roads soon.
Sloping roofline
The BMW X4, like all its rivals including the Audi Q4 and the Mercedes GLC Coupe, is more of a style statement than your usual upright and rugged looking SUVs. It features a sloping roofline that mimics that of a sporty coupe. Although this form of design eats into the rear headroom, it gives the car a truly distinctive look.
High-end tech
Standard features on the top-end variant include BMW’s display key that allows the driver to keep in contact with their car round the clock. There’s also gesture control, panoramic roof, ambient lighting, wireless charging and a high definition rear camera for parking assist.
Performance
The 3-litre six-cylinder diesel engine makes 265bhp and a maximum torque of 620Nm between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm. BMW India claims a 0 -100kmph sprint time of 6 seconds. There’s also a smaller 2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine (190bhp/400Nm) which allows the X4 to hit 100kmph in 8 seconds. Meanwhile, the 2-litre petrol powered X4 has 252bhp and 350Nm.
Connected drive
The X4 is also equipped with BMW’s ConnectedDrive systems which includes a digital speedo that reflects the selected driving mode, iDrive Touch with hand writing recognition, a 10.25-inch multimedia display with a 16-speaker audio system.
Available in one petrol and two diesel variants
The X4 is available in two diesel variants – xDrive20d M Sport X and xDrive30d M Sport X and in one petrol variant – xDrive30i M Sport X, all of which are locally produced. The ex-showroom prices, meanwhile, are as follows.
X4 xDrive20d M Sport X: Rs 60.60 lakhs
X4 xDrive30d M Sport X: Rs 65.90 lakhs
X4 xDrive30i M Sport X: Rs 63.50 lakhs
