BMW has introduced the second generation X1 in the Indian market at the ongoing Auto Expo 2016. The pricing for the new model starts at Rs 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the top-spec AWD version is priced at Rs 39.90 lakh. Check out the detailed picture gallery of the new entry-level SUV from BMW below.
The X1 in its second generation looks, different from its predecessor. It has grown in dimension (length and height), which makes it look more like an SUV instead of an overgrown estate car.
It follows the standard BMW design philosophy with the kidney-grille at the front. This one is probably not the best looking car in the segment, but definitely comes across as a premium product.
BMW has used the new Mini platform for the crossover and that has turned this into a primary front-wheel drive vehicle, moving aside from the traditional RWD BMWs.
Of course, it is not something that enthusiast will like, but it comes with advantages of its own. There is plenty of cabin space both at the front and back, something that was missing in the previous model.
To keep the purists happy, there is an AWD version. But looking at the way Minis handle, we don’t think it is absolutely necessary for great driving dynamics.
For India, BMW is offering only one engine option. The 2.0-litre diesel engine is tuned to produce 190bhp and 400Nm. The engine is mated to the standard eight-speed ZF gearbox.
The interior of the car has changed as well, compared to the previous model. This one has beige upholstery that makes the cabin look roomy.
The BMW X1 competes with the Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA in the entry-level luxury segment. The company is accepting orders for this model and the delivers will start in the month of April.
