- Slated to debut at the 2019 Los Angeles Motor Show ahead of the market launch in 2020.
- The four-door version of the 2 Series will also spawn an M2 Gran Coupe.
- Built on the front-wheel-drive platform as the 1 Series.
BMW, at their annual press conference, put out a teaser on the upcoming all-new 2 Series Gran Coupe. Basically a four-door version of the 2 Series, the car will be revealed at the 2019 Los Angeles Motor Show. This could very well be a production-ready model and not just a concept that will hit the LA stage. However, the market launch is scheduled to happen only in the spring of 2020.
Although the teaser doesn’t give out much information, we do get to see the 8 Series-inspired sensuous yet sleek LED tail lights. The car is finished in a lovely turquoise green, akin to the 8 Series GC concept. The presence of a proper door handle is a giveaway that this isn’t a concept car. The characteristic shark-fin antenna is present along with an aggressive duck-lip spoiler.
The first ever 2 Series Gran Coupe will be built on the same front-wheel-drive platform as the new-gen 1 Series and the other two cars of the 2 Series family. The 2 Series GC will go up against the CLA rather than the A-Class sedan. It will be positioned between the 1 Series sedan and the bigger 3 Series. The powertrain will be shared with the smaller 1 Series or the X2 crossover, but a full-blown M2 Gran Coupe is expected to come around as well.
BMW has also confirmed that the next-gen 1 Series hatchback is due to be revealed later this year.
