We attended the launch of the new Mercedes-AMG GT S in New Delhi today, where the sports car made its India debut with a price tag of Rs 2.4 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). Here are the exact details of the new model as announced by Mercedes at the event.
Mercedes is using the handcrafted 4.0-litre V8 AMG engine with internally installed turbochargers producing 503bhp and 650Nm of torque. The car can sprint to 100kmph from standstill in 3.8 seconds on its way to the top-speed of 310kmph.
Despite not so exciting figures when compared to other sports cars, the performance seems more than adequate with the weight saving measure. The 209 kilogram engine is one of the lightest in the segment, so is the 231 kilogram chassis.
The power from the engine is transmitted to the rear wheels via the seven-speed AMG Speedshift sports transmission. The gearbox offers five modes – Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Individual and Race. The Race mode has been configured in terms of responsiveness, engine speed and shift times to deliver maximum performance.
The AMG GT S rides on the AMG ride control sports suspension with adaptive adjustable damping. The driver can choose between Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus modes to change the damping characteristics and in turn altering the ride and handling dynamics. The two-door coupe uses an electronic rear-axle differential lock which can adjust to defined locking ratios, offering better traction for high speed direction change.
The inside of the car gets two-tone exclusive nappa leather upholstery options, AMG detailing and all the necessary features including an elaborate music system and a safety pack with eight airbags, three stage ESP and high-performance composite braking system.
The sports car is completely customisable and the top-end with all the features is priced at Rs 2.4 crore. Customers can choose from close to 10,000 unique configurations offered by “designo” including six upholstery options, four alloy wheel design options, three seat beat colour options, five option packages and four trims.
Mercedes is offering the AMG GT S in seven colours – magnetic black, iridium silver, brilliant blue, selenite grey, hyacinth black, diamond white bright and AMG solar beam. The car is imported to India as a CBU and rivals the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type.
