Following months of speculations and expectations, Toyota has finally launched the all-new Fortuner in India. The much-improved SUV has officially hit the showrooms with ex-showroom prices ranging between Rs 25.92 lakh and Rs 31.12 lakh, depending on the trim.
The new Fortuner has improved in every measurable way compared to the outgoing model. It’s not only lighter but also more powerful and feature rich this time around. In terms of standard equipment, the top-spec trim gets LED headlamps with projectors, electric tailgate, climate control, ambient lighting, cruise control, electric adjustment for driver’s seat and a new infotainment system with GPS and reversing camera. As for safety, you get seven airbags, ABS, brake assist, traction control and ESP.
Underneath the entirely new body shell, Toyota has used its new IMV platform which is a lot lighter than its predecessor. Drivetrain-wise, the Fortuner now gets a 2.8-litre diesel engine similar to the one found in the Innova Crysta. While the power output is nearly the same at 174bhp, the torque has gone up to 420Nm for the 6-speed manual and 450Nm for the 6-speed automatic model. Interestingly, Toyota is also offering a petrol model which gets a 2.7-litre, four-cylinder unit. The latter however is available only as a 4x2.
Unlike the old car which has a full-time all-wheel drive system, the new Fortuner can be driven in 2-wheel drive mode as well. The new hardware though features a more rudimentary fixed 50:50 torque split as against variable distribution in the previous model.
The new Toyota Fortuner is now officially on sale in India and competes with other family SUVs like the Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Trailblazer. Listed below are the variant-wise ex-showroom prices for the new Fortuner.
