Suzuki has rolled out an entirely new Wagon R for Japan. The model, which enjoys a popular status here in India, has been put up to modern standards with new design bits and different mechanicals. Here’s an overview of this crucial model through some detailed pictures.
Suzuki is offering the new Wagon R in one standard and two hybrid variants- FA, FX hybrid and FZ hybrid. There are 10 colour options and all models come with CVT as standard.
The new WagonR is shorter in length compared to the current generation car by around 300m and is a tad shorter as well. Wheelbase grows by 60mm whereas the ground clearance is reduced by 15mm.
Under the hood sits a tiny 660cc, three-cylinder petrol engine developing 51bhp and 60Nm of torque. The hybrid variants come with an electric motor that produces 3.1bhp/50Nm of torque.
Design wise, the Wagon R retains its signature boxy profile albeit with new details such as the headlights, the grille, tail lamps and larger wheels.
Inside, there’s a centrally mounted instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. The interior trim can be had in shades of beige or black.
Suzuki is offering CVT as the only gearbox options but all Wagon R models can be had with front-wheel or four-wheel drive option.
In terms of design, the India-spec car will be heavily toned down to suit Indian consumers’ tastes. It will continue with the 1-litre engine with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT.
