The reinvention of the iconic Mini brand continues with the introduction of the all-new Mini Convertible model. Fresh for 2016 and with major refinement improvements against its predecessor, this new model is set to go on sale in the UK from March next year.
The 2016 model’s brand new features include a fully electric roof that is quieter than the previous model, a fully integrated rollover protection system and more rear space than before. Dimension wise, it’s both longer and wider than the previous gen Mini Convertible. The wheelbase is also 28mm longer and track width has also grown a further 42mm at the front and 34mm at the rear.
The increase in dimensions has improved interior space for all four seats although it’s safe to say that the rear bench is best reserved for kids over short journeys.
Under the hood, the new Mini Convertible can be had with either the 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol, 2-litre four-cylinder petrol or the 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine option. Power is directed to the front wheels with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard while a 6-speed Steptronic automatic unit can be had as an optional extra.
The new Mini Convertible will go on sale in Europe starting March 2016, followed by other markets (including India) later in the year.
