First unveiled at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, in Detroit, the all-new Ford GT has been spotted testing on public roads. The highly anticipated mid-engined supercar will be the third model to sport the iconic moniker since the GT40 first broke Ferrari’s dominance in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1966.
Due for launch next year, the new GT is built around an ultra-lightweight carbon fibre monocoque chassis with aluminium subframe. It packs a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine which delivers over 600 horsepower to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Ford says its EcoBoost unit has been derived from the race car engine which powered the Ford Daytona Prototype.
When launched, the new Ford GT will go up against other supercars like the McLaren 650S, Lamborghini Huracan and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
