An all-new compact crossover from Lexus has made its online debut, ahead of its public unveiling at the Beijing motor show on April 20. Called the NX, this sharply styled premium model marks Lexus’ entry into the booming mid-size crossover market.
Talking about the design, Lexus says that this new model has been designed to look as though it is has been cast from a single piece of metal. Upfront as expected there’s the controversially styled spindle grille which plays the central focus of the NX’s angular shape, reinforced by LED headlamps and daytime running lights. On the sides, flared wheel arches house 17 or 18-inch wheels, giving the car a muscular stance. The rear, meanwhile, is highlighted by the L-shape tail lamps, fitted with LEDs.
Under the hood, the NX will be offered with a petrol-electric hybrid power-train in the form of the NX 300h. Furthermore, there will also be a 2-litre turbocharged petrol and a naturally aspirated petrol unit in the NX 200t and the NX 200 respectively. Each will offer the choice of front and all-wheel drive configurations.
Lexus has revealed that the NX will come standard with a host of innovative new technologies such as wireless charging tray for portable devices and a multi-information display with a Lexus-first G-sensor and boost meter. The NX will also feature a head-up display and blind spot monitoring system.
The NX compact crossover will go on sale towards the end of this year and it’s when Lexus has said that it will announce full details and specifications of the model line-up.
