The 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show was largely dominated by the Jaguar C-X17 SUV concept as well as the announcement of a new ‘baby’ Jag which will slot in beneath the XF. Codenamed X760, the saloon will compete with mid-ranking cars in the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 ranges. Jaguar has plans to beat Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz at their own game by launching four new models by 2018.The all-aluminium saloon will be joined by an estate, an SUV and possibly a hatchback in the style of BMW’s GT models.
The saloon will be the first product to use the new lightweight iQ[Al] architecture, which was displayed in C-X17 SUV. Jaguar brand director Adrian Hallmark has claimed that it will be ‘the most efficient, technologically advanced and refined car in its segment.' The Intelligent Aluminium architecture is very scalable, lightweight, and extremely stiff. It will also help achieve modularity by sharing some of the hardware like electronic architecture, aircon, powertrains, some suspension parts and seat frames with other Jaguars.
Expected to hit the showrooms in 2015, the saloon will be built in a brand new factory at the Land Rover site in Solihull, England. Along with four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines (currently under development), we can expect an R-badged car with the 380hp 3.0-litre V6 supercharged engine from the F-type V6 S. The most efficient model will be able to manage over 26 kmpl.
