This is a glimpse of the second-generation Audi A5 and S5 coupes that were revealed by Audi, at the company’s headquarters in Germany yesterday.
“Our coupes turn every day into a holiday for our customers,” proclaimed Audi chairman of the board Rupert Stadler as he revealed the all new A5 and S5 coupes in Germany. “We have more performance and better fuel economy, much more space, and the standard spec brings our midsize coupes to the level of a luxury car.”
When you look at these machines, they don’t deviate much from the predecessor’s design language. However, what’s new is that engineers have put to use extra aluminium and high-strength steel to shed weight. Audi claims a weight reduction of about 59kgs. That’s taking into account the added length of 45mm.
Audi has got five engines in mind for the A5 in Europe. From the little that was gathered, they’re expected to be up to 20 per cent more potent than the outgoing model’s engines, while offering to be more frugal by 20 per cent. The range of motors will get to taste a seven-speed and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. European customers will also be able to flaunt an optional six-speed manual ‘box. Audi’s new S5 will get the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 motor which packs 354bhp. This engines helps the S5 despatch the 100kmph run in 4.7sec by making supreme use of an eight-speed automatic transmission. Audi has also draped the S5 with a sportier body kit. Braking and handling upgrades have been integrated to make maximum of the power increase.
