Alfa Romeo’s upcoming SUV has been spotted undergoing trials in Europe, for the first time ever. The yet-unnamed four-wheel drive SUV is still in its early stages of development and is seen sporting a bloated-up Fiat 500L’s body in these spy shots.
The SUV will be built around the Maserati-developed rear-wheel drive ’Giorgio’ platform, which will be shared with the upcoming Giulia sedan. Though technical details are still very sparse, reports suggest that this new SUV will be available with a host of powertrain options, including V6 turbodiesel engines. Though the car will feature a four-wheel drive system, we can safely assume the SUV to be more of a soft roader, than an off roader.
This new SUV will be manufactured alongside the Giulia at the Italian manufacturer’s facility in Cassino, near Rome. It will rival other mid-sized premium SUVs like the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the Porsche Macan. The SUV is expected to go on sale in the second half of next year, as a 2017 model.
