The all-new Chevrolet Corvette is breaking all the stereotypes that American sportscars have imbued over the past century. While humungous amounts of horsepower will still be the signature, the new Corvette will add handling to its repertoire and to aid that it will get a bunch of aerodynamic systems.
The C8.R is also the first production Corvette to get a mid-engine setup, which will make sure it gets the perfect weight distribution. But at high speeds, it is not only the weight, but the way it manages the air around it is what makes a car faster.
So the new Corvette gets active aerodynamics with active ducts, side skirts and of course the spoiler. The ducts will channel the air according to speed to offer minimal drag coefficient and also help to keep the engine cooler. The side skirts will manage the underbody airflow while the active spoiler will make sure you always have enough downforce to lay the power down.
All these technologies are being patented in the US by GM and will help the Corvette do an Audi R8, i.e., compete with performance cars that cost at least twice as much!
