Volkswagen has taken the wraps off its mini hot hatch the Polo GTi. The most powerful version of the VW’s little hatchback will be launched in India towards the end of the year and will be offered with an automatic gearbox.
In typical German fashion, the Polo GTi gets some badging at the front and rear, larger 18-inch wheels, red stripe on the grille and projector head lamps with LED DRLs. The cabin too is pretty much standard VW stuff save for some badging, tartan chequering on the seats on the sporty seats.
Under the hood is where the real party lies. This potent little hatchback is powered by a 1.8-litre Euro 6 compatible four-cylinder mill producing 190bhp and 316Nm of torque. All this power goes to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG. ABS, ESP, hill hold and airbags are all standard features but we can also expect a stiffer suspension for better handling.
The car is expected to arrive via the CBU route so it will be priced above Rs 20 lakh making it a unique proposition for the Indian market.
