Fiat will launch the Abarth Punto Evo in India on October 19. The made in India car will be the first affordable performance hatchback in the country.
The Abarth Punto is based on the standard Fiat hatchback but uses the 1.4-litre turbocharged T-Jet engine delivering 143bhp and 200Nm of torque. The power is delivered to the front wheels via the five-speed manual transmission. The other mechanical changes to the car include all-four disc brakes to provide better stopping power, and stiffer suspension setup with lowered ride height for better driving dynamics.
Like the Abarth 595, this Punto will also be sold exclusively with the Abarth badge. The Fiat logo on the car is replaced by the Abarth’s scorpion and gets a different paint scheme to highlight its sporty lineage. Inside, the car gets black leather upholstery, metal pedals and all the features from the top-end Punto Evo.
The Punto Abarth is expected to cost around Rs 1 lakh over the top-end variant of the standard car. On pricing, the car will compete with the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI but has a much higher power output.
