Government is planning to make linking of driving licence with the Aadhar card mandatory. This is being done to put an end to fake and multiple licences.
Linking driving licence with the 12 digit unique number will help the RTO officials identify a driver or a rider easily. Currently, there’s no way for the government to identify if there’s more than one licence created for an individual. The driver can have more than one licences that can be procured through various means. With this new initiative, the government plans to put a complete stop.
The transport ministry is currently in the process getting the licence database ready which will then be deployed on a common platform to avoid duplication. This platform can be accessed by any RTO or traffic police officials to check if the driver or the rider already has a driving licence issued in some other states. This will also help the officials to know if the licence has been impounded or suspended for any reasons.
While the government hasn’t given the exact time frame for this policy to come out, it is believed to be out by April 2018. This upcoming rule is applicable to new as well as existing licence holders.
