- The Waku SPO Concept is a little retro-styled PHEV - And the Hanare imagines the future of autonomous people movers
Suzuki has showcased two futuristic concepts at the ongoing 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. Called the Waku SPO, the small retro-styled concept is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) which might inspire future cars from Suzuki. Meanwhile, the Hanare Concept is an autonomous pod-style people mover of the future.
Although the Waku Concept won’t hit the production line, there is a possibility that future Suzuki models may draw some of their design elements from it. With its elongated roofline, the Waku looks like a station wagon but it has a removable and customisable panel beyond the C-pillar which means that it could be used as a coupe when the panel is removed. Suzuki is positioning the Waku as an A-segment family PHEV although the technical details aren’t divulged yet.
Alongside the Waku, the Hanare Concept is how Suzuki imagines the future of people movers. The driverless pod with autonomous credentials has the entire side section opening as doors and on the inside, there’s enough room to work or relax during long commutes. Even the Hanare has many customisable options for the cabin and the exterior.
