The B-segment hatchbacks have been the preferred choice as a first family car. Last week we spoke in detail about the front row space and you can read about it here. This time around, we reveal more details about the rear seat space for the occupants. All three cars on our list – Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford Figo, are classified as five seater cars, which means that the rear seat has been designed to accommodate three passengers.
Based on their individual measurements, the Maruti Suzuki Swift proves to be better suited for tall passengers once again as it offers the maximum legroom of 89cms, while the Figo comes a close second at 87cms, followed by the Grand i10 Nios at 85cms. In terms of ideal legroom measurements, the Swift offers the maximum at 72cms, while the Figo and the Grand i10 Nios come close at 71cms and 70cms, respectively. The Swift is better suited for three passengers in the back as it offers the maximum shoulder room of 130cms, while the Figo offers a marginally lesser shoulder room of 129cms. As compared to the other two, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios might feel cramped with three occupants as it offers the least shoulder room of 119cms.
The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios has better accommodating seats as it offers the best seat base length of 49cms and has a backrest height of 60cms. The Swift and the Figo have the seat base length of 48cms and 47cms, respectively. While the backrest height of both the Swift and the Figo measure 58cms and 57cms respectively. Moving in and out from the rear seat of the Grand i10 Nios is the easiest as it offers the best ingress of 66cms and headroom of 95cms. The Swift takes the second place as it has an ingress of 63cms and headroom of 94cms. The Ford Figo scores the least brownie points in this regard as it has an ingress of 60cms and headroom of 93cms.
Among these three cars, the Swift is better suited for five passengers on board, while the Grand i10 Nios is best suited for four passengers in maximum comfort. The Ford Figo misses out on various aspects when compared with the other two cars on our list, but then, the Figo fares decently when it comes to traveling with five passengers on board.
