- Previews Lexus’ electrification future
Lexus has revealed an electrified vision of the future at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show by showcasing the LF-30 Concept. A design study at the moment, the LF-30 employs numerous technologies straight from 2030, says the Japanese carmaker.
Like all other Lexus models, the LF-30 is sharp and edgy from all angles. Measuring 5090x1995x1600mm, the electric concept is huge and those massive gullwing doors add more drama to the mix. The insanely raked windshield, high placed taillamps, hunchback-like silhouette and massive alloy wheels make the LF-30 look futuristic. The cabin, in a typical concept car fashion, is sans B-pillar, minimalistic and has space-age materials and design. There are three screens for the instrument cluster and a massive widescreen for the passenger as well.
The LF-30 is a four-seater and is swathed in various materials like wood, Alcantara, chrome, felt and more. Other highlights of the LF-30 is the steer-by-wire system, opacity adjustment on windows, and augmented reality as well. What’s more, the concept also comes with something called the ‘Lexus Airporter’–a drone support vehicle which can carry luggage between the car and the doorstep.
The powertrain is a four-motor system fed by a 110kWh battery pack mounted in the floor. The combined output is 400kW (approx. 536bh) and 700Nm, which is quite good enough for a 0-100kmph time of 3.8 seconds, says Lexus. An electric range of 500 kilometres is expected from this powertrain along with the facility of a 150kW charger and wireless charging as well. However, the top speed is limited to just 200kmph.
Although the LF-30 won’t be hitting the production line at all, at least not before the year 2030, Lexus might use some design elements and other powertrain features of this concept on its upcoming range of production cars.
