- To break cover on 11 November
- Will share the platform with the new Golf
Skoda has revealed the official details of the new-gen Octavia ahead of the 11 November debut. The highest selling Skoda will enter into a new generation sharing its underpinning with the newly revealed Mk8 Golf. It will also grow in dimension and will come with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrain.
The fourth-gen Octavia will be offered in both sedan and estate body styles. At 4,689 mm, the length is increased by 19mm (22mm on the estate), the width has grown by 15 mm to 1,829mm and the wheelbase measures 2,686 mm. The new Octi also sits on 19-inch alloy wheels. Appearance-wise, the new Octavia comes fitted with a full-LED Matrix headlamp unit flanking the sleeker Skoda moustache grille. The adaptive headlamps works in conjunction with a camera on the windscreen to detect the approaching people/objects.
On the inside, the added space is a given and Skoda claims an increased boot capacity of 640 litres in estate and a whopping 600litres in the sedan. The revamped cabin now gets a new multifunction steering wheel, a floating display, heated/cooled seats with massage functions, three-zone climate control, optional sports seats and Skoda’s KESSY keyless entry system.
As for the powertrain, Skoda is offering plenty of choices with the new-gen Octavia borrowing it from the Golf. Firstly, there’s the 110bhp 1.0-litre TSI and the 150bhp 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines mated to a seven-speed DSG or a manual and mild-hybrid tech. The top-spec gets the proven 2.0-litre TSI with 190bhp and it is offered only with AWD and the seven-speed DSG. The diesel is a 2.0-litre TDI Evo in three states of tune – 115bhp, 150bhp and 200bhp. The oil-burner can be had with a new six-speed manual and optional AWD.
On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid iV model has a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine under the hood coupled to an electric motor with a combined output of 204bhp and 245bhp. Skoda also plans to introduce the G-Tec natural-gas-powered version in some countries. The car will also come with equipped with a sports suspension, electronic controlled chassis dynamics, and Skoda’s ‘simply clever’ features.
After the standard Octavia is revealed to the public next month, the Scout and vRS models will be added to the range in 2020. India-debut is expected to take place either late next year or it might be delayed until the ‘India 2.0’ plan kicks in.
