Ferrari recently unveiled the 488 Challenge Evo at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali event in Mugello, Italy. It’s not only their latest track-ready car, but also its newest consumer race car that will be used in the brand’s Ferrari-only racing series - the Ferrari Challenge. These pictures show the changes to this speedster’s design and performance that make it more competitive and capable car than before.
To improve the Evo’s aerodynamic efficiency, Ferrari has altered the length of the front overhang while adjusting other front-end aerodynamic bits such as repositioning the sides of the bumper.
Adding to the downforce is a new air vent in the grille and a modified rear wing. Then, a new small wing underneath the side-view mirrors diverts air towards the intercooler openings.
The carmaker has also equipped the Evo with new Pirelli tyres. They are meant to boost overall performance and ensure greater lap-time consistency during long sessions at the track.
And it's not just the exterior bits. The car’s electronic differential, anti-lock brakes and traction control system are also upgraded. In fact, it’s said that the new carbon ceramic brakes are more durable than their predecessors.
Like with any other race car, the vehicle’s cabin is minimalistic. However, it does boast of a new rear view camera from the Ferrari 488 GTE and a new steering wheel.
Interestingly, Ferrari has announced that these aforementioned new components and improvements on the 488 Challenge Evo will soon be offered for their existing cars as well.
