- The BS-VI compliant EcoSport will be launched under Mahindra-Ford JV
- Expected to be launched next year
A Ford EcoSport prototype was recently spotted testing the BS-VI compliant powertrain in Pune. The prototype had emission testing equipment mounted on the exhaust with an ‘on ARAI testing’ sticker on the windscreen.
The engine under testing here could either be the 1.5-litre Dragon petrol or the older 1.5-litre diesel, both of which are expected to be upgraded to BS-VI. However, according to reports, the 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine might not be upgraded owing to its relatively low sales and high-cost factor. Ford might even discontinue this motor from India. Instead, this motor may or may not be replaced by the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol from the Mahindra XUV300 but nothing is confirmed at the moment.
Almost all of the EcoSport’s rivals are updating their powertrain to comply with the upcoming BS-VI standards. Meanwhile, the Nexon and Vitara Brezza are also getting a major overhaul with a facelift soon. So it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Ford also updates the EcoSport in terms of features and looks along with the BS-VI update. More details of the updated Ford EcoSport will be revealed in the coming months.
