Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 launched starting Rs 2.44 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched their new car small car, the Alto 800, for starting price of Rs 2.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Alto 800 is basically a cosmetic upgrade of the Alto, with better packaging and space utilization. Maruti is also offering three CNG variants, which are priced starting Rs 3.19 lakh. 

The Alto 800 is based on the same platform as its older sibling, but looks entirely new with fresh body panels. The interiors look a lot better than its predecessors; plastic quality has improved so has the fit and finish. Maruti has also figured out a way to add more shoulder and head room, with taller roof and thinner panels. 

Under the hood of the Alto 800 is the same 796cc three-cylinder engine, but there are lot of alterations to meet emission norms. It is now lighter, quieter and more fuel efficient with better power ratings than before at 48bhp and 69Nm of torque. It is also 15 per cent more fuel efficient – the petrol version has ARAI figures of 22.74kpl for petrol; it delivers 30.46km per kg with CNG.

The Alto 800 is available in three variants – STD, LX and LXI for both petrol and CNG guise. The car is available in six colours – couple of blue shades, red, white, silver and black. The LXI variants will also be available with optional driver airbag.

The pricing positions the new Alto 800 above the Tata Nano, but more competitive when compared to the Hyundai Eon. Maruti confirms that they have already received more than 10,000 pre-launch bookings for car and the number will certainly be lot higher by Diwali. Maruti will continue to sell the 1.0-litre Alto K10 in current avtar for now.
