Toyota will unveil its 2013 model of its C-segment hatchback the Auris at the Paris Motor Show in the last week of September. Keeping in line with Toyota’s new philosophy of designing cars that are visually appealing yet highly reliable, the 2013 Auris has been redesigned with sharper and more distinct lines than its predecessor. On the outside that car has been lowered by 55mm and lengthened by 30mm to improve aerodynamics.
To be built at the Japanese auto maker’s Burnaston plant in the UK, the new car will be available with 1.3, 1.6 litre petrol, 1.4 litre diesel and a hybrid system too. Pictures disclose that the hatchback will feature daytime LED’s and a new grille design.
On the inside, passengers get 20mm more knee space and the boot, which is now 360 litres, gets 90mm more of load space. Other cabin refreshments include leather trimmed steering wheel, padded armrests and fabric finishes for all surfaces. In the top model the dashboard will be trimmed with leather.
The Burnaston facility will manufacture the Auris for all European markets. It is expected to take on the likes of the Ford Focus and the Volkswagen Golf. More details of the car will be announced closer to its launch date.
The Indian car market is not yet matured for hatchbacks costing Rs 10 lakh or more, and hence we don’t expect this model or any of its competitors to make an India debut any time soon.
