Mahindra has been testing the Rexton II in India for quite some time now. This is the same vehicle that was displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo and was earlier speculated to be the first Ssangyong product in India. However, when Mahindra owned Korean brand unveiled the refreshed Rexton W at the 2012 Busan Motor Show – we were sure that the Utility car maker will wait and bring the new version to India.
Now our friends at OnCars have snapped the new Rexton W testing in India, confirming our theory. The Rexton is still built on the same old Mercedes M-Class platform, but the new model looks lot better than its predecessor. The Rexton W has a new 2.0 litre diesel engine that producs 154bhp and 367 Nm torque and returns a fuel economy of 13.7 kmpl for the automatic transmission. There is also a bigger version of the same engine developing around 200bhp.
Like most Korean vehicles this SUV is also feature loaded with (Electronic Stability Program), ARP (Active Roll over Protection), UWS (Ultrasonic Warning System), Cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity and Rain-sensing wipers. The Rexton will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero on size, but might be priced more competitively to give Ssangyong better opportunity.
We expect Mahindra to launch the new Ssangyong Rexton W in India in the first quarter of 2013.
