Toyota India has revealed some interesting sales statistics for its Camry luxury sedan. According to the Japanese automaker, as much as 90 per cent of the demand for the Camry is for the eco-friendly hybrid model.
Between January and April 2016, Toyota India sold 419 units of the Camry hybrid. As for the regular petrol-powered model, the brand sold just 44 units during the same period. Out of the 1,024 units sold last year, the Camry hybrid accounts for as much as 86 per cent with sales of 879 units.
Toyota began local assembly of the Camry hybrid back in August 2013 and now, the brand is looking to introduce the latest-gen Prius which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. With not many options to choose from when it comes to buying hybrid cars in India, the Camry hybrid and the Prius are the only cars you will see on the road for now. The future, however, holds a lot of promise for the hybrid market in India as we will soon see the launch of models like the Honda Accord hybrid, the Nissan X-trail hybrid and the VW Passat GTE.
