Mercedes-Benz officials have confirmed reports of the SLC scheduled to be launched in 2014. The Porsche 911 rival has been developed jointly by the Mercedes' regular passenger car department and the performance car division, AMG. The two door 'baby SLS' is a front engined sports car that will cost around $ 120,000 globally.
The expansion strategy to match projected growth rates of homeland rivals Audi and BMW involves the launch of 10 new models and up-graded/facelifted versions of 22 existing models.
The SLC is expected to run the 5.5 litre petrol V8 producing about 450PS or the 4.0 litre petrol V8 or even a V6 to control the costs. Transmission will be through the 7-speed dual clutch automatic with paddle shifts. The SLC will look to aim at the basic 911s like the Carrera rather than the whole wide range.
The Mercedes will go into production internationally by 2014 and can be expected to hit Indian shores by mid 2015 with around Rs. 1 crore price tag.
