BMW's i division has shown off images of the i8 Spyder, and with it, has revealed that the i8 will go into production, after all. The Spyder derives motive power from a 131PS electric motor powering the front wheels and a turbocharged three-cylinder engine powering the rear wheels with 223PS. It will displace 1.5 litres like the coupe will, in all probability. That's a combined thrust of 354PS and a staggering 550Nm of torque.
The drivetrain is capable of an astonishing 40kpl according to BMW, which puts it on par with most motorcycles on sale in the country today! The drivetrain is unique because it can be energy-saving front-wheel drive, exciting rear-wheel drive and safe all-wheel drive depending on what the elements require.
The i8 Spyder will in all probability be on display at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
