> A large number of digital innovations have also been integrated into the production process
> For the first time in a series-production BMW model, the roof is available in carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP)
> Comes with two engine options - 4.4-litre petrol V8 with 530bhp/750Nm, and a diesel 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder motor with 320bhp/680Nm
BMW has announced that production of its new 8 Series Coupe has commenced at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany.
Some of the unique digital innovations that have been integrated into the production process are the self-driving transport systems and smart devices. BMW also mentioned that the 8 Series uses intelligent lightweight construction- a process that involves using a clever mix of materials such as steel, plastic, aluminium and carbon fibre in the body-shell of the new sportscar.
Two engine options will be available on the 8 Series when it goes on sale in November 2018. The BMW M850i will get the latest generation 4.4-litre eight-cylinder petrol engine that has been completely redeveloped to make 530bhp and 750Nm of torque. The BMW 840d will be powered by the 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel mill that produces 320bhp and 680Nm.
