5 things you need to know about new Skoda Kodiaq

With up to 7 seats and a boot that’s biggest in its class, the Kodiaq is Skoda’s first truly practical SUV however, there is a lot more to this striking looking model that’s headed for the Indian market sometime late next year. Here are top five things you need to know about the new Skoda Kodiaq. 

Dimensions and underpinnings 

The Kodiaq is 4,697mm long, 1,882mm wide and 1,676mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 2,791 mm, giving it impressive interior room for up to seven occupants. The vehicle is based on VW Group’s MQB platform which features a lot of lightweight chassis components. With the entry-level TSI petrol engine and front-wheel drive, the Kodiaq weighs just 1,452kg, or 1,540kg with the 1.4 TSI engine and all-wheel drive.

Design 

The Kodiaq looks typically Skoda thanks to its lines that are clear, precise and clean cut. This is particularly evident in the distinctive, highly recessed shoulder line. The wide, three-dimensional grille is sleek and the narrow, raked headlights, which flow into the grille, give the Kodiaq a distinctive appearance. The long wheelbase and short overhangs point to the large interior and the wheel arches are slightly angular, a key element of Skoda’s SUV design language. LEDs are used as standard in the C-shaped rear lights that is typical of Skoda. The overall look of the car depends on the three trim levels on offer – Active, Ambition and Style.

Equipment

Being a high-end Skoda, the Kodiaq is loaded to the brim with features. Besides the usual affair, you get optional tri-zone climate control which has its own control panel for the rear seats, a fabric/leather combination or Alcantara upholstery, ambient lighting, AppleCarPlay /Android Auto, WiFi hotspot and multiple cameras for a 180 degree view. 

Drivetrain 

Five engine options – two TDI and three TSI engines, make up the engine range. Both fuel options can be had with a 6-speed manual or DSG automatic units with six or seven speeds. The Kodiaq will be available in both front and all-wheel drive configuration with different driving modes.

India launch 

Skoda India has had good reception for its high-end vehicles, what with the Superb and the Octavia doing well in their respective segments. The Kodiaq, then, is an important proposition for the brand to consider for the Indian market. The brand, in fact, is preparing to bring the Kodiaq to India sometime late next year as their flagship offering above the Superb.
