The Speciality Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show is held in the first week of November every year in Las Vegas, USA and features the best custom built and performance tuned cars across the globe. The association that came into being in 1963 aggregates the aftermarket manufacturers, speciality equipment distributors and restoration specialists.
We scout through the crazy concepts and one-off builds to bring out the five most interesting Ford Mustangs built for SEMA 2015.
1. 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet
Ford built this 8-second to the quarter mile scorcher as a part of its turnkey racecar program. Ford has not revealed the exact number of ponies kicking at the rear wheels but the 5.0-litre V8 with a Whipple supercharger bolted on would give many a car a run for its money. Surprisingly, Ford claims that 75 per cent of the Jet’s engine is built with stock Mustang GT parts.
Equipped with a drag-spec roll cage, new suspension, racing seats and a prepped up automatic transmission, this monster can be in your garage for just about Rs 65 lakh. You sure would want to miss out on the optional graphics kit and a wheelie bar, the ones that will set you back by a paltry Rs 13,000 each.
2. 2016 RTR Ford Mustang Competition Car (Vaughn Gittin Jr.)
If you thought the Mustang was all about straight lines, Formula Drift champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. will be burning donuts around corners in this purpose built RTR competition car. Built to the latest specifications for Formula Drift, this Mustang spins out 900bhp from the 438cu-in V8 engine while revving all the way to 9,000rpm.
The outrageous Monster racing livery cries speed over the carbon fibre panels and composite materials that have been used to keep the car’s weight down to 2800lbs. Though you won’t be able to buy this masterpiece built by Roush Yates, you can see it battling out at Formula Drift!
3. 2016 DRAGG Police Ford Mustang
If you think you could get away with street racing, you will have to ditch all your hopes when you see these lights flashing in your mirror. Built by Drag Racing Against Gangs and Graffiti (DRAGG), this badass cop car will make you think twice before you slam that throttle.
Dressed in black and white, this Mustang runs on a newly developed Ford EcoBoost engine that pumps out scary 900 horsepower. It will be no surprise then if this becomes an addition to the Dubai police car fleet before any of the American officers get to chase down boy racers!
4. 2016 Ford Mustang GT MAD Industries
Well, MAD says it all, doesn’t it? A custom shiny black paint with dashes of blue so bright that you would want to have your shades on every time you look at the car. You would love to keep those shades on as inside the car too – not because the Trevino and Suede leather is in the exact same hue of blue but also because it is a convertible!
Sitting on massive 21-inch wheels, this pony car will gallop around the countryside in style. But if you ever wanted to go fast, the 725bhp powertrain will give you a thumbs up every time you step on the gas.
5. 2016 Ford Mustang BisiBoost
Bisimoto engineering is no stranger to the world of pumping out unbelievable amount of power for its cars. This Ford Mustang also churns out close to 900bhp. I am sure by now you wouldn’t even yawn at this. But, what if I tell you it is a measly 2.3-litre inline four Ecoboost engine?
Lovingly called the BisiBoost, this hot rod will certainly give the V8s a shocker. The long list of mods includes everything from the suspension to camshafts, cylinder head, forged pistons, custom fuelling system and a big fat turbocharger.
