A weekend of speed, tyre smoke and many, many bhps - what else could a petrol head ask for? Yes, this is perhaps the best phrase I could use to sum up Valley Run 2017. As someone who has been attending them since the last four years, I expected the level of enthusiasm to wane a bit but that was not the case at all! In fact the level of sophistication in terms of modifications has managed to touch a new high and we just simply had to show you some of the crazy machines that came to battle it out on the air strip. Here then is a collection of modified cars at the Valley Run 2017.
Honda City
This generation of the Honda City may be almost 13 years out of production but that has not stopped people from tapping into hidden potential of the all-mighty 1.5-litre VTEC motor. The car in the photos has no rear seats, no passenger seat; actually there was nothing inside apart from a dashboard, racing bucket, roll cage and the racer of course. Of course the most noticeable element was a massive rear wing to provide downforce when car is doing north of 150kmph down the drag racing strip.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo
If you have grown up in the previous decade and had access to a PS2/decently powerful computer/ gaming arcade then surely Need For Speed Underground and Underground 2 would be the racing games to play. Among the many machines available in these games then, Lancer Evo in its many generations would have stood out for its ability to accelerate/ go round the corners. Well the story was no different here as the Evos in their small numbers managed to stand out as powerful yet underrated cars that made their presence be known.
Nissan 300 ZX
A Japanese behemoth among men, this car came from an age when Nissan played the RWD/front engine game much harder than it played the compact sedan/budget hatchback game. Powered by a 300bhp 3.0-litre V6, this car was quite special as it was a left-hand drive model with a stylised American number plate, large white NISMO wheels and red brake callipers. In addition the driver had also fitted a large RPM gauge.
Toyota Supra
Like the Nissan 300ZX, this generation of the Supra too came from a time when Toyota was eking out power for the racers rather than moving towards a line of green and clean cars. Known for its ability to rocket off the line, this Mumbai registered and very orange looking Supra has been a regular face in the Indian drag racing scene over the last few years especially in terms ofat the Valley Run.
Rear-engined Skoda Octavia
Yes, you read it a rear-engined Skoda Octavia! The crazy owners of vehicle had been working on this machine for the last three years and aim to ultimately get around 600bhp from this rather underrated looking set of wheels. For this edition apart from the usual changes like a fibre hood, massive Garett turbochargers, the drag spec Laura also sported massive racing slicks for maximum grip while hurtling down the track.
