Mercedes-Benz, it seems, is taking the green route with its upcoming vehicles. The brand, which already has the S500 plug-in hybrid in its range, is set to add yet another fuel efficient model in the form of the new C-Class plug-in hybrid. All in all, it is being said that there are plans to roll our 10 new plug-in models in the next three years.
The latest plug-in hybrid is called the C350 Plug-in hybrid. According to Auto Express who has been given a sneak peek at the prototype model, this new vehicle is powered by a 208bhp, 2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which is paired with an 80bhp electric motor. The bigger S500, on the other hand, gets a twin-turbo, 3-litre engine, also mated to an electric motor.
The C350 plug-in hybrid is said to boast of an electric-only range of around 32 kilometres. As for the all-important fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, the C-Class is expected to better S500 Plug-in’s figures of 42kmpl and 65g/km.
Mercedes apparently has revealed that it will not make any plug-in hybrid versions of its small car range consisting of the A, B, CLA and GLA-Class. All of these models, which are based on the brand’s new MFA platform, could feature hybrid technology in the future.
