Gone are the times when hot hatchbacks made 200bhp at best. Lately there has been a power war going on between several manufacturers with each coming up with ludicrously powerful hatchbacks. The latest to come in the news is Volkswagen which is developing a new version of the Golf with up to 400bhp of power.
Labelled Golf R400, this extreme model is expected to be introduced sometime next year. It will be powered by a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing 395bhp and 450Nm of torque. Like the latest-gen Golf R, the forthcoming R400 will get four-wheel drive and 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox as standard.
First shown as a concept at the Beijing Motor Show last year, the Golf R400 will become the most potent hot hatch when it arrives next year.
