- Might make its way to Indian shores as well.
- Will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre motor transferring 300bhp to 4Matic all-wheel-drive.
- The A35 will be the most affordable AMG to date.
Mercedes-Benz revealed the new-gen A-Class earlier this year, and we already knew a more potent version is already on its way. The previous A45 was a breakthrough in the desirable hot-hatch segment, but before that arrives in its newest avatar, Mercedes-AMG will showcase the all-new A35 to the world at the upcoming 2018 Paris Motor Show. The A35 will arrive as AMG's cheapest model till date
We have already seen the Affelterbach’s hot hatch on many occasions undergoing testing on the Nurburgring and high up in the Swiss Alps. Powering the A35 will be the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol motor as the A250 but with completely revised internals. According to reports, the pistons have been replaced with more performance oriented ones and the software has been upgraded so the motor could push out around 300bhp. This figure will best the current segment topper – Golf R – power output of 296bhp. The raw power will be kept in check by Mercedes’ 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system. The 0-100 is expected to arrive in less than 4.5 seconds.
Appearance wise, the A35 will be subtle-looking compared to the fully-blown A45. But the telltale signs of performance will be present, like twin-tailpipes, lowered ride height and large AMG-spec alloy wheels. The teaser image reveals an AMG insignia on the blacked-out grille and on the sill plates. The A35 will be a looker in the yellow paint scheme in our opinion.
When it arrives, the A35 will lock horns with the Volkswagen Golf R, Audi S3 and upcoming BMW M130iM in the competitive hot hatch segment. It will hit the streets early next year ahead of the A45’s arrival. We expect Mercedes-Benz to launch the A35 in India as well when the German carmaker’s rejigged line-up arrives on our shores.
