Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a long wheelbase version of the E-Class sedan at the Beijing Motor Show. The fifth generation of the W213 E-Class has been stretched to offer extra knee room and comfort for the rear passengers.
This stretched version of the E-Class gets an elongated stance due to its extended rear doors and roofline. It also gets a triangular window in the C-pillars for better visibility. In comparison to the regular E-Class, this Long Wheelbase is 140mm longer as it gets a wheelbase of 3,079mm and overall length of 5,063mm.
All of this has translated into more space in the cabin. To be precise, 134mm of legroom for the rear passengers with seats pushed back for better ingress and egress. The rear seat can also be replaced by optional two individual seats with a centre console equipped with temperature control-featuring cup holders.
Folding rear arm-rests and a touchscreen to control COMAND infotainment system come as a standard fitment. Apart from this, Mercedes is offering 64 colour options for the LED and interior ambient lighting. Safety features include active city braking, attention assist and remote parking via a smartphone.
This Mercedes E-Class Long Wheelbase has been developed exclusively for China and produced by Beijing Benz Automotive Co, a joint venture between Daimler and BAIC. The Chinese-spec model will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill. Reports suggest that this stretched version will also be launched in India, but sometime in 2017.
