The concept SUV that Volkswagen has teased last week has been unveiled as the T-Prime GTE at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show. This vehicle, in production form, will be their new flagship vehicle and will sit above the soon-to-be-launched CrossBlue.
This new SUV is underpinned by the MLB platform. In the concept form it is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and a hybrid motor that have a combined output of 375bhp and 699Nm of torque. This engine has been mated to an eight-speed AT and VWs 4MOTION all-wheel drive technology. This power enables it to have a 0-100kmph time of six seconds and a top speed of 223kmph.
Noticeable design elements include large chrome grille, LED DRLs, heavily flared wheel arches with 22-inch wheels and a massive chrome heavy rear bumper with integrated exhausts. The four-seater cabin gets a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system and even a digital display for the climate control.
The passengers at the rear too get a nine-inch display which can be used to control the music system and climate control. It has been trimmed out in a combination of beige and white with black for the dashboard.
While it is being showcased only in China right now, it seems almost certain that this vehicle will be a global model. It is likely to be introduced in a variety of markets across the globe with petrol or diesel engines depending on the region.
