Renault has completely remodelled the Koleos for the coming few years. Shown recently at the Beijing Motor Show, the new Koleos looks a lot more striking and falls in line with Renault’s global crossover range.
The new Koleos is built using the CMF C/D platform which is also used in a variety of Renault-Nissan cars including the X-Trail, the Kadjar and the Qashqai. As for the drivetrain, the Koleos gets two petrol and two diesel engine options, with power ranging between 128bhp and 175bhp. These engines will either be paired with a 6-speed manual or the brand’s X-Tronic CVT ‘gearbox.
With a 2,710mm wheelbase, the new Koleos is claimed to have class-leading interior space among Europe’s D-segment SUVs.
The all-wheel drive system offers a choice between 2WD (front-wheel drive) and 4WD auto modes. The latter automatically splits the torque between the front and rear wheels. At slow speeds in low-grip conditions, a third mode called 4WD lock allows the driver to select permanent all-wheel drive.
Renault has confirmed that the new Koleos will be built in their existing plant in Busan, South Korea. The China-spec model, however, will be built locally in Renault’s Wuhan facility. The car will go on sale later this year in China and in Europe in early 2017.
