Bugatti has taken the wraps off its new Chiron hypercar. A successor to the legendary Veyron, this new vehicle packs 1479bhp and is named in honour of Monaco based racing car driver Louis Chiron.
Let us begin with one of the main elements that make the Chiron a spectacular feat of engineering. It is powered by an upgraded version of the same quad-turbo W16 8.0-litre mill that powered the Veyron. It has now been tuned to produces a massive 1479bhp and 1600Nm of torque with power going to all four-wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch AT and an AWD system.
What does all this phenomenal power result in? Well for starters it does the 0-100kmph sprint in less than 2.5 seconds, the 0-200kmph sprint in less than 6.5 seconds and will eventually go on to hit 300kmph within 14 seconds! Oh and if you have roads capable of letting the car unleash itself completely, you can hit its top speed of 420kmph. What makes these achievements even more impressive is that the car weighs a hefty two tonnes which in hypercar terms is equivalent of someone like the Khali the wrestler having the ability to sprint like Usain Bolt.
In terms of design and appearance, we were given a preview of the Chiron last year through the Vision GT concept that was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is an evolutionary design from the Veyron but gets a completely new rear end as well as aerodynamic package. In the case of the former, the signature quad lights have been replaced by a single piece LED light bar that stretches the width of the car. It is now longer by 82mm and wider by 40mm making for a larger cabin. The design inside has been carried over from the outgoing model but with upgrades to bring the car into the new era.
It has been priced at 2.61 million USD (quite expected) and only 500 units will be produced. Unsurprisingly 150 have been already been booked out. Deliveries will begin in October of this year.
