Tata Motors has renamed the Zica hatchback as, the Tiago. The company had shortlisted three names last week to rechristen the hatchback, after the outbreak of Zika virus in Latin America.
The launch plans of the Tata Zica have been derailed due to this virus. The hatchback was originally scheduled for debut in January, however, as a CSR, it was postponed pending rebadging. Now that the company has decided on the new name, the launch of the Tata Tiago may happen within the next one month.
The Tata Tiago will be positioned between the Nano and the Bolt, to replace the original Indica. The hatchback is based on the modified Indica platform and moves away from the design philosophy of the older Tata cars. The car is available in new three-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options. Even the interior has been refreshed compared to rest of the Tata range with plenty of storage bins and better quality equipment.
The Tata Tigao will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio in the B-Segment with prices starting around Rs 3.90 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
