CES 2016: The future of electric racecars from Faraday Future

A lot has been written and documented about the future of mobility. Celebrating this is the Consumer Electronics Show 2016 which is held annually in Las Vegas. Carmakers from around the world choose to show their ‘wild and innovative’ side here, their concepts and projects under development, all find a platform here.

 Today, we talk about a company whose name involves the word ‘future’ and their work increasingly speaks of it as well. Our focus today is on a California-based company, Faraday Future, and their concept racecar - the FFZERO1. While this was unveiled on January 4, glimpses offered to us through the Internet have made us excited. 

The FFZERO1 Concept vehicle is a test model and is a source of study and inspiration for their design and engineering teams focussed on solutions for a future range of clean and intuitive electric vehicles.

The interior will be an amalgamation of driver-centric technology and real-time data visualisation. We are talking about access to live images, and analysis of vehicle systems and predicting the driver's intentions and needs. For instance, there is a Halo Safety System that supports the driver’s head and neck, and a helmet that feeds the driver water and oxygen. The instrument panel is also designed to gather biometric data about the driver. Unfortunately, only one will be able to enjoy this concept car.

Judging by the looks of it, it seems straight out of a sci-fi movie. Its construction involves carbon fibre and an advanced high-performance racing suspension. It also boasts of advanced vehicle dynamic control and torque vectoring, reduced drag and battery cooling through an aero tunnel design.

What also piques our curiosity is their projected specifications and use of Variable Platform Architecture. VPA involves a new battery structure that's centrally placed for integrity and arranged into modular strings. The powertrain is made up of four Quad core motors with over 1000hp and the 0-60mph dash is over in 3 seconds. It also projects a top speed of over 200mph. For an electric car, these figures do make an impression.

The firm has kept most of its developments under wraps till now and they will be soon setting up an automotive production plant close to their California headquarters. While this is not a real car, Faraday Future do reveal that a more practical car, will, in the future roll out from their plant. Till then they will enjoy the hype.
