6 must-know facts about the Mahindra KUV100

Mahindra’s young SUV for the “Kool and Trendy youth”, the KUV100 is ready to hit the market next year and we gathered six things about this car that makes it special.

Mahindra’s cheapest Passenger Car
When launched, Mahindra expects the KUV100 to battle it out with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10, Ford Figo, Maruti Swift, Honda Brio and the Chevrolet Beat. Expect this to be Mahindra’s cheapest passenger car yet.

New engines
What nestles under the hood of the KUV100 comes from Mahindra’s latest mFalcon all-aluminium 1.2-litre series engines. The petrol mFalcon G80 gives out 82bhp at 5500rpm and whips up 114Nm of torque at 3500-3600rpm. Diesel enthusiasts can enjoy the mFalcon D75 that forks out 77bhp at 3725rpm along with a healthy 190Nm of torque while spinning at 1750-2250rpm.

Monocoque construction
The KUV100 is the second offering from Mahindra that uses a monocoque construction. It’s an important application, especially when targeting the small cars segment. While monocoque constructions may not have the rugged abilities of the ladder construction, being lighter makes the vehicle benefit from better fuel efficiency. Also, monocoque constructions sport superior ride due to the structural rigidity offered.

ABS on all variants
Mahindra has sent out a strong positive note to the consumer and the Indian automotive industry by adding ABS to every variant. This serves as a heads up for a lot of other manufacturers to sit up and pay attention.

7 versions
The KUV100 will be available in seven colours - fiery orange, flamboyant red, dazzling silver, aquamarine, pearl white, designer grey and midnight black. Variants are called K2, K2+, K4, K4+, K6, K6+ and K8, and it is the plus variants that will get the airbag.

Can be sold in Delhi
Mahindra will launch the KUV100 on January 15th, bang in the middle of the Supreme Court’s ban on 2.0-litre diesel cars in the NCR. Both the petrol and diesel mFalcon motors are sized at 1.2-litres, and this means the little Mahindra can be sold and registered in Delhi’s polluted air.
