Honda will launch an in-car app called Connect for the Indian market very soon. Unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, it is an Android-based system and offers a variety of functions that can be controlled through a smart phone. Given its foreign origins , the app is likely to debut in Honda’s more expensive models such as the Jazz, City sedan or the CR-V.
The India-spec app will be offered with 21 functions of which we have discovered around 7-8 crucial ones. These functions include trip analysis, service alert with calendar function, nearest petrol station, accident alert (similar to what Ford offers with SYNC system), location sharing as well as the option to locate the car in a crowded area and finally an option to connect directly to a customer service executive.
The app is also expected to have a navigation system, call function as well as options to control the music system. This system will also allow for mirror linking of devices but how many apps could actually be used would have to be seen. The version that is currently offered in Europe runs Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream sandwich) and comes with a seven-inch touchscreen system.
The current Jazz and City offer the same AVN system that is found in the Brio, Amaze and Mobilio and is only available in the top-spec petrol and diesel variants. This is likely to continue when the Connect system is introduced next year and depending on demand may also move to the Brio platform models at a later date.
