The 20th edition of India’s most coveted automotive awards has begun and the first leg of the proceedings has taken place at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. On 18 December, 2024, the jury round was held in the presence of a panel consisting of 21 motoring journalists, including Vikrant Singh, Editor at CarWale, and Sagar Bhanushali, Associate Editor at CarWale. Here is a full list of the contenders for the three major categories – Indian Car of the Year, Green Car of the Year, and Premium Car of the Year.
Indian Car of the Year
All in, there are eight cars competing for the big award this year. Starting alphabetically, we have the BYD eMax 7, Citroen Basalt, Mahindra Thar Roxx, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, MG Windsor, Tata Curvv (ICE and EV), and the Tata Punch EV.
Green Car of the Year
Introduced in 2021, the Green Car category has only grown every year and the list of contenders for the 2025 award is fairly extensive. We have the BMW i5, BYD Seal, BYD eMax 7, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV/EQS Maybach, MG Windsor, Mini Countryman EV, Tata Curvv EV, and the Tata Punch EV.
Premium Car of the Year
Finally, for the Premium Car of the Year award, we have the BMW 5 Series, BMW i5, BMW M5, BYD Seal, Kia Carnival, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV/EQS Maybach, and the Mini Cooper S.
How does the voting system work?
As for how the voting works, every jury member has 25 points to award. The maximum a jury member can give a car is 10 points. And the jury member must award points to at least five cars. Also, the top two cars cannot be awarded the same points. That means every jury member signals his or her clear winner.
