Regarding its design and appearance, the Nexon CNG is identical to its petrol and diesel derivatives. The only distinguishing element for the new model is its i-CNG badging on the boot lid.
Its interior boasts a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other notable features include a wireless phone charger, two-spoke steering wheel, automatic climate control, keyless entry, and a voice-assisted panoramic sunroof.
Like the Tata Nexon EV that recently received a five-star GNCAP safety rating, the CNG variant sports the same safety features as the top-spec models.
This includes a 360-degree camera, six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, ESP, ABS, and EBD. Moreover, there are Isofix child seat mounts, auto-dimming IRVMs, and a rear de-fogger.
Now, Tata’s twin-cylinder i-CNG arrangement comes with two 30-litre cylinders placed beneath the boot floor freeing up boot space, unlike single-cylinder units.
It comes with an advanced ECU and auto-switch feature between fuels, which enables direct start in CNG mode and the capability to seamlessly switch between petrol and CNG.
What's more, in case there is a gas leak, the iCNG technology switches from CNG to petrol mode. Besides, for added safety, Tata Nexon CNG also gets a micro switch to turn off the ignition.
Powertrain
The Tata Nexon CNG, which is the first turbo-charged SUV car in India, employs a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine supported by the brand's dual-cylinder CNG technology. This turbo-petrol mill churns out 118bhp and 170Nm of torque in petrol mode and 99bhp and 170Nm in CNG mode. It comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission only.
