- Launch in India on 24 July
Introduction
The updated Mini Cooper S and the new-generation Countryman E electric SUV made their global debut in September 2023. The carmaker opened bookings earlier this month and announced that both will be launched on 24 July along with the new-gen BMW 5 Series. This will mark the first time the Countryman will be available in India in a fully electric version. Here's all that we can expect.
Exterior
The all-electric Mini Countryman Electric boasts its distinctive design language despite being built on the same platform as the BMW iX1. The updates up front include the brand's signature octagonal grille and revised headlights with new DRLs. At the back, there is a revised look for the tailgate and the taillights receive a makeover with new LED elements.
Interior
The cabin echoes the Mini Cooper's minimalistic design but boasts a large 9.5-inch round OLED infotainment display that takes centre stage. A futuristic-looking heads-up display replaces the traditional instrument cluster for a driver-focused experience.
Powertrain specs, battery packs, and driving range
While the India-spec powertrain options await local confirmation, Mini offers two electric powertrains for the Countryman overseas. There is a single-motor front-wheel-drive option that produces 201bhp and 250Nm of torque. Besides, a dual motor with an all-wheel-drive option that packs a punch with 309bhp and 494Nm of torque is also offered. Both versions come equipped with a 66.45kWh battery. However, the specific range figures (462km for single motor and 433km for dual motor) might differ depending on the final configuration offered in the Indian market.
Price and Competition
The Mini Countryman Electric will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). While the petrol-powered Mini Countryman currently starts at Rs. 48.10 lakh (ex-showroom), the Electric will demand a premium of around Rs. 70 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with other EVs such as the Kia EV6, BMW iX1, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
