- The new Tucson will come with a new design language
- Expected to break cover next year, India debut will happen at a later date
We last spotted the new and updated Hyundai Tucson a few weeks back undergoing high altitude testing. Now, the Korean crossover was seen at the Nurburgring gathering some track time. The prototype also lost all its faux cladding and was wearing obscure camo wrap all-around revealing more details about what’s changed.
Firstly, the newly designed grille is hard to hide, so the carmaker has sort of left it uncovered it seems. The bonnet shutline is seen running across the fascia and there’s the newly shaped headlamp cluster as well. The low-placed lights are also seen whereas the front bumper appears to be simple in comparison. This is the new design philosophy from the Korean carmaker which will be spearheaded by the upcoming Azera flagship sedan.
In profile, the wheel arches are squared off and there’s a sharp shoulder line running from the front fenders to the rear lights. The window line is very European-esque combined with a new alloy wheel design. At the back, the prototype still wears rudimentary tail lamps but we could easily figure out the shape of the rear lights which will be joined in the same way as seen on the new Azera and new-gen Verna.
In terms of powertrains, we expect new engine options to be offered with the updated model. Apart from the current 2.4-litre four-cylinder and a six-speed automatic gear, there will be a newer engine and gearbox options on offer as well. A hybrid or a mild-hybrid version isn’t ruled out either.
Hyundai is expected to reveal the new Tucson next year with sales commencing later in 2020 in the international markets like Europe and America. Meanwhile, an ASEAN spec version will shortly follow and it will promptly make its way to India either late next year or in 2021.
